Our Story
We're Abi and Jake, the two people behind Upstate Picnic Company. Jake grew up in the Capital Region. Abi grew up in Central Oregon. We got married in the Adirondacks, and that place will always be part of us, which is why one of our picnics carries its name. This is our creative venture. Jake is the maker and the handyman. If you see something handmade at your picnic, he probably built it or dreamed it up. Abi does the styling and the hunt for the pieces that pull each setup together.
We build every picnic ourselves, by hand, for the people who will sit at it. We started this because we wanted to give people an experience that feels built just for them. Something different than dinner and a movie, or another round at the same bar. You show up, and for a couple of hours everything is already beautiful and it's yours. When you leave, we want you to feel like the whole thing was made for you.
Because it was.
What Does Thoughtfully Sourced Mean?
Almost everything at your picnic is local, thrifted, handmade, or from a small business.
There's something about thrifting for the right piece. One with character, one worth giving a second life. Upstate New York is full of thrifting gems and some of the nicest people you'll meet behind the counter. It's also full of local florists and farms, and nothing beats a table set with things that were grown and made close to home.
And one promise we'll always keep: no AI, ever.
Every design, every word, every setup is ours. We put real effort into the things we care about, and much like thrifting, we'd rather be mindful of the mark we leave than take the fast, disposable route.
